Many recipes simply do not work.

I am professional in pastry in a popular modern restaurant. I bought this book to give me new ideas for our weekly prix fix menu. It's really hard to find books with modern plated desserts, so I was very excited and this is a very well known Chef. First of all, after looking through the book once, you notice almost all the desserts are very similar but each page is a variation of flavor in the same dessert. Also, take note that the main reason a lot of these items look so beautiful are because of the colorful micro flowers. It's not practical from a flavor stand point. I try to avoid that because, quite frankly, flowers don't taste very good. And last, but most important of all, THE RECIPES DON'T WORK. I bought this book a couple weeks ago and it came with a little slip of paper with corrections to some of the recipes, so I assumed everything was correct. Well I have tried a chocolate glaze, fruit glass, and his famous crema catalana recipe. Glaze was sticky and hard to manage, glass was clear with no color like the picture, and the crema catalana curdles any way you try. Mind you, I tried the crema catalana recipe 3 times, assuming I was at fault. I'm a professional and rarely have problems producing from recipes. They're just weird and never give you the product you expected from the pictures. Luckily I ordered Payard Desserts at the same time and the recipes are wonderful! Sorry Bachour, I gave you a try.

The great and not so great.

This is a fantastic book! I love chef's style and techniques and have defiantly spawned some ideas from just looking at the formulas and flavor combinations he does. HOWEVER, beware... There are ALOT of errors in this book. Formulas for chocolate glaze, without a quantity for chocolate; strawberry jelly using pineapple juice?! And numerous spelling errors, etc. Come on guys.. Let's make a Bachour 2.0 version with a better approach.

Stunning Photos BUT save your money

Antonio Bachour has wonderful imagination and exceptional skill with his magical deserts and pastries, Alan Batman's photographs do them true homage, however Katie Rosenhouse as an editor leaves everything to be desired.
The book arrives with a hastily (laser) printed A4 sheet of errors, which you might put up with and shrug and accept it, however the sheet only corrects a few of the errors and omissions in this otherwise stunning book.

Frankly it's disappointing that you can't rely upon what's in the book as far as directions and ingredients go, Batt needs to get his head away from the view-finder and read the text after his Ed has ticked off on the content, if you are going to be a Publisher, particularly of books that require technical skill and accuracy with ingredients then you need to do more than just say it's "pretty".

The new ethos also defined nonprofit charter management organizations (CMOs) like KIPP that surfaced in the wake of EMOs and flourished. But the dependence of CMOs on philanthropists, tireless teachers, and students capable of abiding by rigid expectations limits their reach.
Abrams argues that while the commercial mindset sidesteps fundamental challenges, public schools should adopt lessons from the business world. Eye-popping investigative reporting on the non-profit and for-profit education initiatives of the past generation complements a rigorous academic apparatus of statistics, theory and international comparative analysis. Abrams begins in the early 1990's, when the former president of Yale (and president of Edison Schools)---as good a representative as any of the educational, cultural, economic and political elite of this country---stated that for-profit K-12 education "offers the best hope, perhaps the only hope" for education reform (p. 17). Abrams tests the hopes of "market-based" school reformers against the fresh data of outcomes and provides the hard data, narrative, and prescriptions that will, one hopes, reshape education policy in the US and overseas. Highest recommendation. For policymakers, philanthropists, politicians, educators and laypersons grappling with the costs, benefits and pitfalls of government policies that are presented as "market-based."

Dr. Lachkar does a masterful job of focusing on emotional abuse, which is generally sidelined when abuse is discussed. Her classification of personalities in marriages is intriguing. Since this is a book that integrates rich theory with vivid case examples and also elaborates treatment issues, every practitioner engaged in couple therapy should read it. Wow. This is a really thought-provoking and intense book.

I read this book for many reasons, as a therapist and as a woman in our society who has seen abuse in many forms and experienced mistreatment at the hands of another. I was stunned that no one else has reviewed this book, then I realized maybe many people haven't heard of this book or don't want to share any personal experiences. Lachkar writes a very balanced approach to relationships. She doesn't advocate a victim-abuser stance. She talks about patterns of engagement in which partners become involved, as a way of acting out previous hurts and difficulties. She starts the book by defining a spectrum of abusive behaviors, from the less obvious to more obvious. That alone can be helpful to get an understanding of what is respectful treatment and what is abusive. She writes for intelligent readers and accepts that even smart people can get involved in these negative patterns. I also like that she describes diverse types of people who are abusive, including those with narcissistic personalities or who are a bit obsessive. The final chapters on how women engaged in these patterns can retract themselves is really quite helpful. I have given this book to many women and recommended it to others. Highly helpful if you believe you may be experiencing mistreatment or work with women who are.

Thats what this book is, but it does not have much more info and dont bother if your trying to become a burg expert. Though I guess you do need to see what the vineyards look like.
