I have had the honor of reading every single book that Bella Forrest has written and am pleased to say that she definitely knows how to capture her readers attention. Her books are so amazing and full of love and adventure and of course let's not for get a little drama and situations that will literally leaving you holding your breath and begging for the next book to hurry up and be released! I urge everyone to read the "A Shade of Vampire" series as well as the "A Shade of Kiev" trilogy and also her two book series "Beautiful Monsters". All her books will leave you begging for more!

I could read this series forever...

I knew all along Kiev could be a better person and I'm so happy that he and Mona get their happy ending! I can't wait for them to return Anna to The Shade. I really hope A Shade of Vampire 9 isn't the last book in that series. I just can't get enough of these characters! A must read series and spin off series!

Fell in love again

As much as I hate to admit it, I fell for Rhys. After Mona took the potion to erase her memories of Kiev, he showed her what seemed to be sincere love. That's when I fell. I get so drawn into these books that it doesn't seem like a book, it's my reality. Bella is a great writer and I hope there's many more to come.

This second edition capitalizes on comments and suggestions collected over 5 years from world-wide readers. A warm "merci" to all of you! There are several key additions such as a small-signal model of the active clamp forward converter or the ac-response analysis of the QR flyback converter. Small-signal transfer functions of BCM PFC stages are also there, in current mode or voltage mode. Another important addition is the derivation of all rms currents (with a step-by-step approach so that you can follow the flow) of the three basic cells when operated in CCM but also in DCM. Results are presented in a clear and ordered form, also available in dedicated Mathcad files for those of you who want to put these equations at work. This book is for engineers who believe, as I do, that SPICE or simulation in general, can be an excellent assistant in intermediate design steps before going to the bench. About the Author
Christophe Basso is an Application Engineering Director at ON Semiconductor in Toulouse, France, where he leads an application team dedicated to developing new offline PWM controllers specifications. He has originated numerous integrated circuits among which the NCP120X series has set new standards for low standby power converters. Further to his 2008 book "Switch-Mode Power Supplies: SPICE Simulations and Practical Designs", published by McGraw-Hill, he released a new title in 2012 with Artech House, "Designing Control Loops for Linear and Switching Power Supplies: a Tutorial Guide". He holds 30 patents on power conversion and often publishes papers in conferences and trade magazines including How2Power and PET. He regularly teaches professional seminars at APEC conferences in the US.

Christophe has over 20 years of power supply industry experience. Prior to joining ON Semiconductor in 1999, Christophe was an application engineer at Motorola Semiconductor in Toulouse. Before 1997, he worked as a power supply designer at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France, for 10 years. He holds a BSEE equivalent from the Montpellier University (France) and a MSEE from the Institut National Polytechnique of Toulouse (France). He is an IEEE Senior member.

Get This Book!!

Well my heavily used first edition copy of this book has now been happily replaced by this wonderful state-of-the-art second edition update. The first edition book has served me so well as one of the most helpful reference collection books to allow me to bridge between theory and actual practice. Now arrives the second edition with corrections, updates and additions that seek to make this tool even more helpful. Has it delivered? Oh yes! The first big improvement is its size. It is slightly taller but significantly wider, which has allowed for a great improvement in formatting. The flow of reading the second edition is fantastic. Where needed mathematical details have been elaborated and are clearer and easier to understand. New additions to switching topologies have been added to the already vast collection.

A subject of this complexity and variability is not easy to distill in a manner which can be easily understood, digested and made practical for the modern day student or established engineer who wishes to design and simulate power converters using SPICE. Mr. Basso very eloquently and most thoroughly covers a huge swath of switch-mode topologies that is easy to understand for both students entering into power conversion and practicing engineers who need a refresher. I have tried other books, either they are over the top theoretical with long drawn out mathematics that leave one hanging in limbo between theory and reality, or they are general and provide very few tools on how to "do it yourself". As a prerequisite to following this book you will need an understanding of algebra, calculus and basic SPICE simulation skills. The book provides you with a link to download many of the SPICE and MathCAD example files in the book as well as demo simulation software.

Is the book perfect? Perfection is quite subjective and in the case of this complex subject, it is hard to please everyone, especially picky engineers. I think Mr. Basso has been able to present the concepts, design and practical steps of using SPICE to design power converters in a balanced middle ground fashion that the vast majority of student and engineers can greatly benefit from. It neither goes to deep into theory nor does it simply skim across the subjects, but provides a hands-on practical mathematical and SPICE based approach to designing modern day power converters.

Every topology that is cover in this book has at least one example design that goes step-by-step through the design process, from calculations of parameters and component values to average and transient SPICE simulations of the design. He goes into the minutia of what to look out for in the particular topology and what topology is correct for a given requirement. If you are a power conversion engineer, or want to be versed in that field, this book is invaluable.

The practical examples covered in this book are of power converters in the low to medium power range. If you are looking for a book with examples to design and simulate very high power converters, this book may not be for you, but it will provide you with most of the building blocks and foundation needed for you to tackle that field.

You will not be disappointed with the money and time you invest in this book. Get It.

My favorite power supply reference

This is my go-to reference book for power supply design. The new edition offers some nice improvements over the first. Most notable is the new layout, which makes it a little easier to use, however their is plenty of new content. It does a great job at bridging the gap between the simple fundamentals that many other books offer and practical real world applications, while offering intuitive ways to predict real world performance through simulation.

It is nice to see a book that covers the design of the entire converter (input filter, clamps, snubbers, etc.) through real world application examples. For instance, a boost converter for a car audio amplifier starting with only the customer requirements and carrying the reader through the entire design process including component selection and thermal considerations. Although it only focuses on the basic topologies (boost, buck, buck-boost, flyback, forward), the approaches demonstrated for deriving their equations and models make it is easy to derive the equations and models for their derivative topologies (push-pull, SEPIC, Cuk, half/full-bridge, etc.).

I recommend this book to all of my colleagues!

Best Single Book for Switching Power Supply Design

As someone who has been involved in switch-mode power supply design for over 30 years, I highly recommend this book.
Before Christophe Basso's first edition, I was constantly digging through multiple reference papers, seminar notes, and specific chapters of various text books to find the information I needed to design and simulate a power supply. His first edition captured all of the design information and simulation techniques in one well-written and useful book. My copy is worn as I have referred to it daily as a design reference.

His second edition builds on this excellent work with additional small signal modeling and analysis, with more SPICE and MathCad examples. Christophe also maintains a website with tools and references. You will find him accessible and worth the read.

The quality of print, larger page format, and better book construction of the latest edition are also appreciated.

This was average by author dumas standards. He is known to have an assistant write in some of his novels. It seems to be apparent to me whenever there is a deviation into the historical context of the story, which is necessary but is written in a completely different boring matter of fact style. Still a great story as wtih all his novels. Probably four stars when compared to other novels but I hold dumas to higher standards because he is the best storyteller of all time.

Adult/High School-In 1979, Paul, 18, lands an unexpected job at a camp for underprivileged children. Accustomed neither to roughing it nor to youngsters, he knows that he is unprepared but falls to with a will and an open heart. Over the course of the summer on a Quebec lake, he learns about his own strengths, discovers the unaffected charms of 9- to 14-year-olds, and falls in love with a co-counselor. Subplots involve overcoming physical and emotional fears and the reality of shepherding a blind child through camp experiences. The ending brings the protagonist back to the site of the camp 20 years later. Paul and his fellow teens act responsibly with the children but are prone to partying between sessions; they are able to cope with emergencies, and they experience the death of one counselor's parent. The story unfolds with quirky black-ink drawings and natural-sounding dialogue. The images bounce with physical energy and depict the brightness and darkness of the teen's moods. Endnotes offer readers in the U.S. helpful information for interpreting Quebecois swearing and references to pop idols of the place and time. Anyone who has gone to camp, or taken on a job with the knowledge that it seems unworkable, will recognize Paul's plight and the sense of achievement he gets to taste.

Gr. 9-12. It's the summer of 1979, and Paul, a recent high-school dropout and an apprentice at a local print shop, is broke, unhappy and living with his parents in Canada. A phone call from a friend who is running a summer camp for underprivileged kids allows Paul to escape into a job as a replacement counselor. Paul is apprehensive at first as he's not great with kids and doesn't know the first thing about braving the wilderness, but after a rocky start, he bonds with his fellow counselors, the kids begin to grow on him, and he falls in love with his partner, Annie.

Rabagliati's simple black-and-white line drawings and classic comics format are well-suited to this slacker-goes-to-summer camp tale, which has plenty teens can relate to--whether it's Paul's dissatisfaction with the authority figures at his school or a first love. The final act will ring true for older readers nostalgic about their own first overnight camp. The book was originally published in French, and this English translation includes a glossary of terms and places. Some explicit sexual content will limit this to mature teens. Carlos Orellana

For fans of European style comics

The first thing I look for in a graphic novel is the drawing style. Rabagliati's style is 1950s 60s the kind you would find in a French text book of that time. The story is well though out and beautiful. His books are ones that I will keep and never lend out.

a wonderful graphic novel (ie comic) for a wide age range

The character of Paul has appeared in a comic book and an anthology by the quality comics publisher from Canada, Drawn and Quarterly. Michel Rabagliati's full-length graphic novel, translated from the French, is funny, poignant, and a joy to read. This is an example of the exciting potential of comics- many types of readers will enjoy it on it's own merits.
Paul, our hero, has dropped out of high school and is working a routine and boring day job at a print shop. When his charasmatic pal Gus calls with an offer of counsleor work at a summer camp, Paul jumps at the opportunity. Both Paul and the reader will be very glad he took this opportunity. With a deceptively simple, almost retro-50's style, Rabagliati sketches and fleshes out the dozen or so characters Paul meets in this story. The camp and the characters are effectively developed to the point where the reader is deeply touched by their struggles, laughs at their jokes, and is just as regretful and sad as Paul when the summer finally ends.
The story resonates with major turning points for Paul, the kinds of moments we all experience, sometimes treasure, and remember for the rest of our lives. One gets the sense that these are personal moments of the author, special and shared with complete trust. We experience his first love, the growing confidence of Paul as he matures, and the rewards he gains working closely with a group of underpriveledged kids, particularly a charming blind girl named Marie. His return to the spot years later, when he shares some of these gems with his own infant daughter, is quite touching and feels real.
I'm very grateful that Rabagliati shared these feelings and experiences with me and his other readers, even if they are fictional. I look forward to more Paul books.

About the Author

One Of The Best Biographies Ever!!! WOW!

This is one of the best biographies I have ever read about anyone. This book is very well-written, as it portrays Faron Young as a person first. Many biographies about musical artists talk way too much about the music, and not enough about the person. Faron Young's music speaks for itself. However, no one has ever known that much about his life, other than that he was a colorful character who sang country music, used salty language and drank too much. Diekman paints a much more detail picture of an outwardly simple, yet internally very complex man. As you read this book, you will feel the tremendous highs and lows that Young went through in his happy yet often painful life. You will also feel the alternating sense of fun and nervous tension that friends and family felt around him. Once I started reading this book, I could not stop. And while I like Faron Young music, I am not what one would consider to be a die-hard fan. This book took me back through Young's life, as well as the lives of those around him. It is also sad to see how such a super talent died so sad and bitter. But after reading this terrific book, I understand why he died as he did. I have read thousands of bios on everyone from John Adams to Patsy Cline. This is definitely in the top three. It is simply WONDERFUL................It reads great, and paints such a illustrative picture of a man who, I thought I knew a little about........but after reading this book, I realize how little I really knew! I'm gonna read it again, and then go out and buy some Faron Young music. BRAVO!

The Beauty of Truth

What appeals to me as a reader -- and what I admire about Diane as a writer and biographer -- is that Faron is revealed as a "man in full." Faron possessed a magical voice, a gift for entertaining, an appreciation for his artistic abilities, but he apparently was also possessed by the demons of depression.

Years of research, and a compassionate understanding of the man behind the music, gives readers (and history) a book wherein Diane examines Faron's life and death, never hiding sad truths that sometimes leave a reader reeling, but yet we know she loved and respected the man and his art.

A Man of Contradictions

Faron Young, who is today one of the more underestimated country singers of his generation despite his long career and many hit records, was a hard man for even his friends to peg. That is because, as so aptly described by Diane Diekman in her Faron Young biography, "Live Fast, Love Hard: The Faron Young Story," he was a man of strong contradictions.

Faron Young was one of the nicest men in the world but he was one very mean drunk and no one wanted to be around him when he was drinking heavily (and that was much of the time). He was extremely generous to those who had less then him (often they were songwriters on the way up, such as Willie Nelson) and were in need of a few hundred dollars to tide them over, but was known to refuse his road band the extra five dollars a day that would have made all the difference in the world to them. He loved his children and considered himself to be a good family man but he made it a point to speak of his youngest daughter as his "only little girl" and never publicly acknowledged the other daughter he had out of wedlock or how terrible his relationship with his oldest sons really was. Faron could curse like a sailor, and he usually did, but would behave respectably around the wives of his band members. He had lots of longtime friends and he had lots of longtime enemies. He was an astute businessman who made some terrible business decisions that cost him a whole lot of money.

All of these contradictions, taken as a whole, are probably why so many people explained their toleration for Young's behavior by saying, "That's just Faron." Connie Smith used those words to explain how someone with her temperament could endure working on the road with the fast-living Faron Young. And even Jean Shepard, as brash as she sometimes appears to be, finally refused to go on the road with him any longer.

Longtime Faron Young fans who witnessed him in his prime will probably still find some surprises in, or have their memories nudged by, Diane Diekman's well-researched and detailed biography. She reminds us that Faron was founder of the influential Music City News and reveals just how much personal money he put into the newspaper in order to keep it afloat long enough for it to pay its own way. Her readers also learn that he would have had more hit records, and number ones, if he had not refused to let his label use payola to move his records up the charts the way record labels bought higher chart positions for so many other singers.

And that is just the beginning of what is packed into "Live Fast, Love Hard." The book covers the childhood that may explain Faron's own cold approach to fatherhood, the national, though bogus, scandals that damaged his career, his failed marriage, and his tragic death at his own hand. About the only thing missing is a comprehensive discography of Faron's recordings, although the book does mention most, if not all, of his record albums and notes which ones include his biggest hits.

So this is a book both for those who are already fans of Faron Young's great voice and for those to whom he is hardly more than a name from country music's past. Put a copy of "Wine Me Up" on the turntable, grab a cold one, prop your boots up on the foot stool, and enjoy this book. If you're not already a Faron Young fan, you probably will be by the time you finish "Live Fast, Love Hard."

Very short serial but entertaining

Super fast and short alien kidnapping story. Unlike most of these abduction stories, Evie is aware of what's going on rather than being snatched in her sleep or off the street. This is a fated mates type story rather than the aliens-have-no-women-and-must-steal-breeders kind of deal. There was no time to develop the characters or do any real world building and most of the story was taken up with sex scenes. I liked the brief picture of the Fremm and would like to get more of their culture and world--hopefully that's in the next book. While there's not a cliffhanger per se this is an obvious serial with an abrupt ending and much more story to come. I read this through KU so I plan to follow up with the sequel. Be aware that the title work reflects only part of the the page count; another short story and a number of pages listing the author's other works and giving contact info for the mailing list, etc. takes up quite a bit of space.

Too short

I think there were too many errors and inconsistencies in this book to really be enjoyed. I know that it is a novella, but there wasn't enough back story to have the readers understand. Also, there was just too much going on and I felt there was a great lack of chemistry. Believable chemistry. It was too much like a caveman story where man sees woman, likes woman, and then kidnaps her. I needed more.

I love a good destined mate story

I love a good destined mate story. There is something about finding the one and only person you are meant to be with. Aster, who never believed in mates himself, must convince Evie they are meant to be together. There is an instant attraction, on his side at least, which has Aster behaving foolishly.

Evie spies Aster while working and is attracted to this big blue alien. When he asks to spend time with her, how could she say no? She doesn’t believe in this mate business he keeps going on about. She is surprised when she finds out he’s a Prince. Can things get much more complicated?

Misunderstandings get in the way and must be smoothed over if there is any chance for Evie to be his. You could stop with the ending in this one, but it just wet my appetite for the rest of Aster and Evie’s story. So onto book two!

About the Author
Author/artist Masashi Kishimoto was born in 1974 in rural Okayama Prefecture, Japan. After spending time in art college, he won the Hop Step Award for new manga artists with his manga Karakuri (Mechanism). Kishimoto decided to base his next story on traditional Japanese culture. His first version of Naruto, drawn in 1997, was a one-shot story about fox spirits; his final version, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, quickly became the most popular ninja manga in Japan.

I'm a huge fan of Naruto, and this volume doesn't disappoint! If you're collecting volumes like I am, I'd recommend this one because it has so much action and story development.
